How To Track Your Ads Using Hosted Phone Numbers

"Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half."

The above quote is attributed to John Wanamaker, a US department store merchant (1838 - 1922) but is often just as relevant to business people today.

Track responseIn order to know which advertising pieces / media are working for you, you need to be able to track the responses from each to see how they are performing. Of course, the battle doesn't end there, as customers will often come across your advertising in many places and may not buy from you on the first encounter.

Still, that's no reason not to track as much as you can to uncover which advertising works best for you.
That's where Callagenix can help. With our range of virtual phone numbers you can use a different number on every advert you run if you want to. This might be different versions of the same ad to test which offer or 'hook' works best, or it might be the same ad run in different places so you can discover the best place to reach your prospects.

How many numbers you need will obviously depend on how much advertising you're doing and what sort of response you're getting. You could start broad with just 2 or 3 numbers, for example, one for each magazine you're advertising in. The more places you advertise and the more ad variations you test, the more numbers you can add in.

Responses can be tracked by examining the call logs in your Callagenix account - you'll be able to see how many calls each number gets so you can then work out whether it's worth continuing to advertise there. If you can also then link each call back to sales you'll be able to get a better idea of where your high quality leads come from, as well as just the quantity.

For example, 10 high quality leads from one source may be worth more to you than 100 lower quality leads from elsewhere. If you don't attempt to track conversions you may never know.

One particular use some our clients have is to select a fairly high volume of 0800 numbers for use in their Yellow Pages ads. A different number is used in each area, so advertisers can tell where their leads are coming from. Our usual pricing structure for 0800 numbers wouldn't work in this case, which is why we've come up with a Low Volume Multi-Number bundle for when you're expecting a low number of calls across a selection of numbers. Each number has it's own allocation of inclusive minutes, with additional calls charged at a low regular rate.
