0845 numbers are a compromise between keeping your own operating costs to a minimum and offering a cheaper alternative for your customers, encouraging them to call you. They pay the standard local rate fee regardless of where in the UK they are calling from.

How do 0845 numbers work?

Standard Routing Service 0845 numbers (Number Direct)

Your 0845 number "sits" on top of your BT type number. When customers dial your 0845 number they are redirected to your own landline. This does not affect your BT number in any way. 0845 numbers will only work diverting to UK landline numbers; they will not work with mobile or international numbers.

0845 Numbers and Intelligent Routing Services (Callagenix Services)

0845 numbers can be integrated with other Callagenix Intelligent Routing services such as virtual switchboard (see sample diagram below), answer phone, fax, call diversion, company information line, group divert, call forward and call transfer.

Here the caller dials the Callagenix number, the call is routed to a Callagenix platform that runs your service and handles the call is the manner you prescribe. This may involve a simple announcement or divert to a mobile or UK lanldine, or it may involve call options and call center hunt groups.
