VoIP could be the answer
VoIP stands for Voice over internet protocol and is a way of making telephone calls over the internet. It is sometimes known as ip phone or sip phone. If your clients have VoIP numbers themselves a VoIP to Voip call is usually free and VoIP to landline calls are much cheaper than calls between landlines.
Can I use VoIP?
Most importantly, VoIP calls require a fast stable broadband connection. Callagenix recommends a minimum of 80K of upload speed per VoIP phone call. There are a number of testing sites available including http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk. Companies with good broadband speeds should be able to run multiple concurrent telephone calls.
Voip telephone numbers are allocated by Callagenix in bundles of ten provided you have a funded Callagenix phone services. To allow calls to be made to and from a non-VoIP landline, it is also necessary to have a standard telephone number. Callagenix clients can choose from a range of local, national and international numbers.
When calling a non-VoIP number, your standard telephone number will be displayed. However you still benefit from our out bound call rates.
What VoIP equipment is needed?
When making VoIP calls, you need equipment which will connect you into the VoIP system. This could be a VoIP phone, a soft phone or a switchboard that connects your existing phone system to the internet.
VoIP phones work in the same way as normal telephones except that they connect to your router. Some VoIP telephones contain a dual system which allows you to connect to your normal phone line in case of internet failure. Callagenix recommends the VoIP telephones listed here.
Soft phones effectively connect to your broadband via your PC. Soft phone applications are available as downloads (some free). To access a soft phone system all the equipment you need is a headset and microphone plugged into your PC. Whilst soft phones are a convenient method of accessing VoIP calls, they do take up computer resource and can have quality issues. Callagenix only recommends soft phones for internal calls or if travelling.
Switchboards that connect to the router allow existing phone equipment to be used. Combining the Callagenix virtual switchboard with Voip telephone lines brings other benefits such as intelligent routing and the opportunity to record and store your calls.
