0871 numbers and Ofcom regulations
Ofcom now requires charges to 0871 numbers to be split into two parts - the service charge and the access charge. This is with the aim of helping callers understand call charges.
- The service charge. The per minute, ex.VAT rate we set to call our 0871 numbers. You need to display this rate alongside your number.
- The access charge. The extra charge added to the service charge by the caller's phone provider. This will obviously be different, depending on the service provider, so we can't know this in advance.
How and where to display the cost of your number
It's your responsibility to display the service charge alongside your 0871 number, whenever you use it. We suggest using the following statement:
"Calls cost 10.8333 pence per minute (ex. VAT), plus your phone company's access charge."
