How does it work?
The Time of Day service enables you to programme up to seven time slots, each with its own unique service combination. Immediate changes to all of your schedules can be made via our online management system.
The best way to think about the Time of Day service is to see it as the top layer in your phone system. It controls how calls are handled depending on the time they are received. Underneath the Time of Day service you can have different combinations of services for each of the seven time slots.
Sometimes you may only want to run a single service, such as the Answerphone service, to take messages overnight. At other times, you may want multiple services all active for a particular time slot, such as Virtual Switchboard with call menus, Group Diverts and recorded Information Lines to deal with enquiries at peak times.
No matter how simple or complex your chosen call handling solution for each time slot, the Time of Day works the same way, controlling and activating specified services, or groups of services, based solely on the time slots you have set. This makes it a simple yet powerful tool for you to use when creating your ideal phone service.
Another example of how you might use the Time of Day service is to set up a follow-the-sun service. If you have multiple offices / call centres around the world and take calls 24 hours a day, you can use the Time of Day service to automatically transfer all calls to whichever office is open at that time, no matter where in the world they are situated.
We also have a short video tutorial on how to use the Time of Day service. You can watch it by clicking here.
The Time of Day service must be used along with other services (or there'd be no reason to switch between them). Some examples of the Time of Day service in use are:
- In a general company switchboard set up where calls are answered 9am -5pm and directed to voicemail at other times.
- For a 'follow the sun' divert. e.g. 9am-5pm calls the office, 5-7pm calls mobile, on weekends 9am-12pm calls mobile, all other times it will divert to an Answerphone service.
- With Group Divert where different Hunt Groups are used at lunch times.
Other Time of Day Features
The Time of Day service is slightly unusual, in that rather than handle calls directly, it screens them and then automatically passes them to a user or another service/ services to be handled. It controls how a call is handled depending on when it is received (as determined by you).
No matter how many services are used in connection with Time of Day service, the service charge remains at 70p/day. So, whether this service has one service or a hundred services beneath it, your service charge stats the same.
